Iron Butterfly is one of America’s most influential rock bands, leading the way towards the development of hard rock and heavy metal in the 1960s.
The band's 1968 album “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” is among the world's 40 best-selling albums, selling more than 30 million copies. Iron Butterfly is also notable for being the first group to receive an RIAA platinum award.
Their heavy, psychedelic acid rock led to national exposure through tours with the Doors and Jefferson Airplane. Their sound is soaked in flower power and hippie ideology, but with a harder edge that throws in distorted feedback, monstruous organ chords, gritty riffs, and trippy solos.
In 2010, Iron Butterfly received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 20th Annual San Diego Music Awards.
